I have been trying to start a blog for a while now, without success. Maybe I wasn’t committed enough, or was it just that I was working so long in front of a computer, sitting a few hours more to create my own page seemed impossible. Most people, I know, who’s working tool is a machine can’t stand one more minute looking at the screen once the job is done.

So Here I am, here and now, writing my first post.

I am a Hatha Yogi based in Beirut, and I insist on the word Hatha, because I just love it so much. I love Hatha so much that I became the Hatha Advocate, maybe sometimes I over do it…  That doesn’t mean I am a Hatha fanatic,  I do practice other styles  which helps me keep my mind open and inspired but Hatha holds a special place in my heart.

To be more specific, it’s the Sivananda Yoga I like the most, the Yoga of synthesis, that combines all 4 paths of Yoga (Karma – Bhakti – Raja – Jnana). This is what I love to teach, love to share and love to learn.

Beirut needs it. Beirut needs it now more then ever. Yes, it’s nice to sweat, to move fast from one asana to another, to jump, to fly. It’s invigorating. But what about the essence of yoga? What about the purpose of Hatha yoga? Which is to prepare the body and the mind to sit still, to meditate. In a time where we are constantly challenged, in a land where we feel insecure not knowing what tomorrow might bring, living working striving in tough conditions, a practice that combines the physical aspects with breathing techniques and meditation gave me the strength to make it out here.

In the midst of crazy Beirut, I know I was born here for a reason. This reason is my Karma and is yet to be discovered.

Om Shanti

Mahadevi
